Definition

Presa (capture or take) is the general term for winning cards during play. In Briscola, you make a presa when you win a trick: you play a card that beats your opponent's card (either by being a higher card of the same suit, or any trump card beating a non-trump card). Both cards go into your capture pile face-down. In Scopa, a presa happens when your played card matches the value of a single table card, or when your card's value equals the sum of multiple table cards — in which case you capture all of them at once. Maximizing the value of your prese (plural) over a session is the core objective of both games.
