Definition

Scopone is the competitive 4-player team variant of Scopa. Unlike standard Scopa, all 40 cards of the Neapolitan deck are dealt: each of the four players receives 10 cards and the table starts empty. Partners sit across from each other and play out their full hands. The scoring categories are the same as Scopa — carte, denari (or oro), settebello, and primiera — plus any scope (table sweeps) scored during the hand. Because all cards are visible to both teams by the end, Scopone rewards memory, planning, and partnership coordination. There is no luck from unknown draws, making it a pure test of skill.
