Carte

A Scopa scoring category: 1 point for the player who captures the most cards total.

Definition

Carte (cards) is one of the four standard scoring categories in Scopa. At the end of a hand all captured cards are counted: the player (or team) who holds more than 20 cards scores 1 point for carte. With 40 cards in total and 2 players, that means capturing 21 or more. In a 4-player partnership game the threshold is similarly the majority of cards between the two sides. If both sides tie at exactly 20 cards, neither scores the point. The carte point often goes to the same player who dominates the scopa count, because aggressive sweeping tends to clear the table and pile up cards — so the two scoring categories reward similar gameplay styles.
